MIZRAEL MENDEZ

Vitals: Mt. Whitney, sophomore

Need to know: After finishing 13th in the section Division I race (16:20), he earned another level of respectability by clocking 15:56 at state for 49th among 194 runners.

JASON FREEMAN

Vitals: Clovis East, senior

Need to know: Consistent at season's end, he placed sixth in the section's D-I (16:01) before finishing 54th in the state (16:00).

GERMAY TESFAI

Vitals: Hoover, junior

Need to know: What a two-week plunge -- from 16:47 in section D-II finals to 15:47 in the state. That mark was eighth among section representatives in all divisions.

ANTONIO RODRIGUEZ

Vitals: Washington, senior

Need to know: Found All-Star credentials by winning the section D-IV title (16:08) before hitting the wire 16th in the state (16:18).

JESSE ARELLANO

Vitals: Madera, senior

Need to know: His 15:55 for fifth place in section D-I trailed only the four Buchanan runners and Foothill's Chris Schwartz.
